What is an Accredited Buyer Representative?

What is ABR?

The Accredited Buyer Representative (ABR®) designation is the benchmark of excellence in buyer representation. This coveted designation is awarded to real estate practitioners by the Real Estate Buyers Agent Council (REBAC) of the National Association of Realtors® who have met the specified educational and practical experience criteria.

These criteria are:

  • Demonstrated a practical experience of having completed at least five closed real estate transactions in the field of buyer representation.
  • Received recommendations from at least two of the practitioner’s buyer clients.
  • Be a member in good standing with the National Association of Realtors.
Look for those real estate agents that proudly display the ABR® designation and know that they are professionals in the field of buyer representation.

Did you know?

  • That more than one million people in the US are licensed to sell real estate but fewer than 2% of those are Accredited Buyer Representatives (ABR®)?
  • That the Real Estate Buyer’s Agent Council (REBAC) is the nation’s oldest and largest association of real estate practitioners addressing all aspects of consumer representation in the real estate transaction.

REBAC members:

  • Are part of a network of more than 28,000 Buyer Representatives from coast to coast in the US and Canada.
  • Subscribe to the strict code of ethics of the National Association of Realtors®.
  • Are kept up to date on changes in real estate laws and practices through the association’s monthly newsletter, bulletins, and continuing education programs.
  • Are committed to providing high-quality, client-level services for buyers.
